True Kona coffee is grown on the big Island of Hawaii
They say money doesn't grow on trees, but kona coffee certainly
does and what makes true kona
coffee so unique is where these tree are growen. These trees
thrive on the cool slopes of Haulalai and Mauna Loa Mountains, which
contains a rich volcanic soil. While most trees will fruit abundantly
in full sun, this particular coffee tree thrives with afternoon
cloud cover.
Kona coffee can be purchased from its fines grade, which is Peaberry,
to its lowest grade which is Prime. In between grades from top grades
down are: extra fancy, fancy, and no. 1. It is best to purchase
whole coffee beans and store them in air tight containers in the
freezer to optimize freshness. The recommended shelf life is two
months.
