it's all in a name

How german chocolate cake got its name

It was good old, Sam German, an American who lived in the Midwest whose name we associate with the beloved German Chocolate Cake. At least that's when it all started. In 1852, Sam was responsible for the product named in his honor - Baker's German Sweet Chocolate - today know as German Sweet Chocolate.

German Chocolate Cake made its claim to fame in 1957 when a Dallas, Texas homemaker publisher her recipe in the newspaper and people fell in love with her cake. The popularity of her German Chocolate Cake spread and not long after the cake became a household favorite. Included in the name, of course, is the main product, German Sweet Chocolate, for which Sam German was the father of invention.

There are many variations of German Chocolate Cake. Here is a recipe that is very delicious and easy to make.
