The fiddler crab has to work hard at survival!
The fiddler crab received its name from
the oversized claw of the male fiddler crab, resembling a fiddle.
These crabs inhabit the shores of warmer areas where life's challenges
represent an ongoing struggle to their survival.
This is not to say that the fiddler crab has it harder then other
crab species, because these animals receive no free lunches! As
for food, these crabs rely on the paltry organic matter mixed into
the sand which they scoop up. Since sand has little organic matter
the fiddler must spend a lot of time eating.
Other threats the fiddler crab face are predators like birds swooping
down to snap them up & the vulnerable molting stage where this
crab looses its protective outer shell for days, remaining soft
shelled and armor less.
