Blue crabs:
These crabs are popular for a crab feast. Caught prolifically in
the waters of the Atlantic and Gulf Coast, Blue crabs are the talk
of the town in coastal Maryland and Delaware. It is possible to
buy these crabs - soft shell or hard shell. As for soft shelled
Blue crabs, the entire crab is edible, and it is most often battered
and deep fried. Crabmeat bought for crab cakes, soup, casseroles
and dips comes in 3 types: Lump, Claw and Flake. Lump is the best
meat and desirable for recipes. Buy blue crabs: whole & live,
soft shelled & live or as crabmeat.
Dungeness crabs:
Dungeness crabs are popular for a crab feast. Caught in the waters
of the West coast they are beautiful and sweet tasting. It is possible
to buy these crabs online, live, and shipped overnight.
Stone crabs:
Stone crabs are popular for eating only the claws. Caught in the
waters of Florida and the Gulf coast, they are legally protected
from being removed from the water. As a trade off, fishermen can
remove only 1 claw, which will regenerate. To eat the claw, hit
with a hammer and pick out the meat. Great served with a light vinaigrette.
King Crabs:
These crabs are popular for their delicious crab legs and claws.
Caught in the waters of Alaska these crabs are mostly sold as crab
legs which is where most of the meat is located. Cooking is simply
reheating by grilling or steaming. Great served with a light vinaigrette.
